Following from the recent 4.2 releases Evowok Breeder version 4.3 is now available to download.
This update fixes a lot of bugs, but also makes two small but quite notable changes to the game:
NPCs now replace their dead evowok
Prior to this update, it was possible to kill an adversary's evowok, potentially making subsequent matches with them easier. This was a pretty cool way to defeat some characters, or to change the balance or Prowess limits of a match. However, it created some rather unwanted side-effects, in that it was possible in some fringe cases to kill all of an opponent's evowok but still lose the match, which could lead to some odd future interactions, or even permanently lock the player from being able to progress in the game (as it was then impossible to rematch that character!)
As of the 4.3 update, characters whose evowok are killed will replace their dead charges with a new catch ready for any future matches, which of course still allows the loss of their evowok to affect the balance of further rematches in an interesting way, but should hopefully be a better solution to the potential problems caused.
Characters who have challenged the player to a match are now marked on the interface
This is something I've considered doing for some time, but I could never decide if it was a good idea. Having implemented and playtested it this week, I've decided that it does feel like a helpful aid to progress, so it's included in the 4.3 update. Any time a character or group of characters challenge the player to a match, they are marked with a red exclamation mark in the game interface until defeated. Hopefully this should make it easier to keep track of which characters have yet to be defeated in a given location without needing a superb memory or having to resort to keeping handwritten notes.
