Afterlife 3: Legends of Rickard Bronson update 1.11.8

Post by Ryan »

Hello! :) This post is to announce the release of Afterlife 3: Legends of Rickard Bronson update 1.11.8, with the following changes:
  • Fixed control bug allowing the balloon to maintain an exact altitude without fuel consumption when leaving a slippery surface.
  • The Crystal Ball now correctly displays the location of treasure hidden inside other objects and some platforms which were previously not shown.
  • The visible map is now centered in the Crystal Ball's display.
  • The Crystal Ball now gradually loses detail with each use, and partially recharges at the end of each Act.
  • Removed thermals above lava in the Fire Ocean Zone.
  • Modified placement of NPCs in rescue missions.
  • The "Sprinter" trait can now not be used when followed by an NPC on foot.
  • Minor RSF expansions.
As always, the latest version is available here: www.rjbsoftware.uk/afterlife3/download
And a full changelog can be read here: www.rjbsoftware.uk/afterlife3/history

Have fun, and please do feel as welcome as always to post below with any further bug reports, comments, thoughts, questions or suggestions. :)

Hmm, thanks for the report - I'll look into this and see if I can find the cause!
Grave_mire wrote:2). When the game ends because my computer's problems it doesn't save progress!
I'm afraid that this is unavoidable to some extent, because the game is saving locally, so if your computer crashes while playing (or the game is forcibly/unexpectedly closed), the game doesn't necessarily have an opportunity to save progress (although it should always save correctly in the event of the game itself crashing).

Um, I can have a look and see if I can have the game save more regularly to minimise this. But of course, the best idea is always to try to keep your system as stable as possible in the first place though. ;)
Grave_mire wrote:3). Sometimes after emerging from the water air counter may be сontinue decrease
That's interesting. Are you sure this isn't happening in Acts which also have poisonous fumes (which would have the same effect)?

If not, I'll have to look into this - have you noticed any particular combination of circumstances/equipment that can cause it?

There are potential issues with this, on account of some achievements being interactive, but I'll see what I can do.

Do you mean the piles of snow? Those don't contain shrapnel (unlike the piles of ash in some other Zones). :)

Wow, you seem to be getting quite (un?)lucky with finding these at the moment! Thanks again for reporting - I'll look into this soon and see if I can find what the cause might be. :)

Hmm... I wonder if this is down to a particular item or piece of equipment you're using. Are there any items/skills which you've had active in all of these games?

So... I've just tried playing with those maps, and couldn't reproduce a crash as described. I think this problem must be due to an item of equipment or particular Trait which you had in play.

I'd be interested to know, if you remember:

1) Were you on foot or in the balloon at the times of the crashes?
2) What weapons or items of equipment did you have equipped/active at the time?
3) What Traits did you have active?

Having that information should hopefully make it easier to track down the cause! :)

Oh, and also, regarding the issue with the air timer remaining active when not in water:

4) Have you noticed this happening when on foot or in the balloon, or both?

1). Every crash happened before starting act. I bought new baloon before starting every act if I lost it in previous act
2). Golden timepiece everytime; sometimes spikeballs and time bombs
3). First time — night vision, second — fall guy, third — high jump and constitution +1, fourth — no one
4). Both

Okay, thank you - that's useful information. I suspect it might be something to do with the Golden Timepiece, then. I'll experiment with this tonight and see if I can reproduce it.

...And of course I'll also look into the other issues too, including that freeze in the Chosen Story. :)

I've now found and fixed the bug causing the crash you've been experiencing, and also the issue causing the game to hang in Flooded Ruins Zone.

Hmm. That's also odd - I'll have a look and see if I can find a possible cause.

I haven't yet managed to recreate the issue with the air gauge showing when not in the water - I wonder if you've been using any particular equipment etc. when you've encountered that problem, or if there were any other specific details that might have been related? Is this something that happens when using a particular type of movement to leave the water, for example?

Also, is it Rickard's air gauge that's still showing, or a companion's air gauge (or both)?

It only happened once... I was out of the baloon and jumped into the water. When I jumped out the counter did not disappear. I sat in the baloon but the counter and then did not disappear. I did a lot more things but nothing helped. It was relatively long ago, I do not really remember that I was buying. But I didn't have any traits to leave the water. I had something traits connected with jumping. I also didn't have special weapons and improvements for the baloon. And I did not have companion with me

Okay, thanks for the info - so, do you mean that the air gauge stayed on the screen, but the air didn't continue to decrease?

I've just checked this out, and the exit portal appeared correctly - but it's placed directly where your balloon is parked in the screenshot, so it wouldn't appear until you moved the balloon. Is it possible that was the problem here? :)

Well done. :)

By the way, as requested, the next update will save achievements throughout the game, so it should be registered even if your computer crashes.

This is now found and fixed - thanks for reporting. :)

I still haven't managed to recreate any situation in which the air gauge has continued to display/decrease when not in the water, or think of any obvious way that it could happen, but I have made some additional optimisations to the code that handles this, so for now, I think that I'll probably release an update with all of the other fixes and then see if this does happen again in future.

Thanks again for all the reports. :)
